On Saturday 14th January 2012 there will be a regional action day of all Liberal Democrats in the beautiful city of Colchester. It is extremely important that we all rally to Colchester as in May Colchester Liberal Democrats will be fighting for overall control of their borough council. Please encourage everyone you can to come along and help out, this is a great opportunity to meet members across the region and gain new skills which will help you in your own area. It would be great to get as high a Liberal Youth presence there as possible, it will press how important and active we are and can be to the other members of the party.
Colchester Liberal Democrats will even be providing lunch and an evening meal, there really is no reason not to come and help out. I urge you all to come down and help out for the day. Click here to register: http://eastlibdems.org.uk/en/event/detail/colchester-regional-action-day
Matt Downey, Regional Chair.
Thursday 15th December 2011 is polling day for the parliamentary constituency of Feltham and Heston. If you want to join the Liberal Youth team in campaigning there for two days or more, then accommodation and travel are free!*
Though at the last election the Liberal Democrats finished third, some areas of the constituency may be changed and end up being part of Business Secretary Vince Cable’s constituency at the next general election, so it is crucial we get a good showing there now.
Not to mention how much fun it is to go out campaigning, trying to get someone who can make a difference elected, you also gain new skills and meet interesting new people whilst on the campaign trail. Why not give up a day or two, learn new skills, meet new people, have a laugh and make a difference. We need to demonstrate how hard us Liberal Democrats work for local people.

This is the shiny new website for Liberal Youth East of England. I am the maintainer of this website and Chair of Liberal Youth East of England, my name is Matt Downey and you may be able to learn a little more about me on the contact page. My main aim as the new Chair is to push us forward as an organisation in the region to be more co-ordinated and more organised. To increase our capacity and recognition, both in the party and the region. Though above all, to make our region and our country a more liberal place. In the words of the Liberal Democrat constitution
“The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community, and in which no one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity. We champion the freedom, dignity and well-being of individuals, we acknowledge and respect their right to freedom of conscience and their right to develop their talents to the full. We aim to disperse power, to foster diversity and to nurture creativity. We believe that the role of the state is to enable all citizens to attain these ideals, to contribute fully to their communities and to take part in the decisions which affect their lives.”
